5. UTSA at Southern Miss

LINE: Southern Miss -17.5, o/u: 44

The problem here is that we still don’t quite know what Southern Miss is.

It has a good passing attack, a mediocre defense, and little scoring punch against a bad schedule.

Yeah, the Golden Eagles hung around with Auburn in a 24-13 loss, but the only wins are over Jackson State and Rice, they lost at home to ULM, and they just got roasted by North Texas 30-7.

In the three losses, USM scored a total of 40 points.

We know what UTSA is. There’s little offense, but the defense has been solid against a slew of really, really bad teams. It beat UTEP, Rice and UTEP, and it just got blown away at home by Louisiana Tech in a 31-3 loss.

But for the most part, as bad as the Roadrunners are at moving the ball, they should be good for at least 17 points. And now, they’re giving away 17.5 to a Southern Miss team that’s been a bit flaky so far.

There’s a chance the Golden Eagles really are better than their schedule or how they’ve looked, and it’s scary to ever take a team like UTSA that’s 126th in the nation in scoring.

But the 17.5 are too many to give away.

NEXT: It’s time. Finally.
