ATS PICK: Hawaii
Cole McDonald is expected to play.
The Hawaii starting quarterback and statistical machine missed the Wyoming game, but freshman Chevan Cordeiro got his feet wet throwing for 148 yards and two scores with a pick. More importantly in the 17-13 win, the Hawaii defense was just fine.
Hawaii lost to Army. On the road, with an early start – especially for the Rainbow Warriors – and that was still a tight 28-21 game.
It has answered the call against everyone else, including in road wins over Colorado State and a plucky San Jose State, and it’s been able to take care of home, too.
But the schedule hasn’t been anything special. BYU is the second-best team the Rainbow Warriors have faced so far.
There’s an excitement over freshman Zach Wilson taking over the quarterbacking gig, but can he really get the O moving? BYU has yet to score more than 28 points on an FBS team, and now it has to try dealing with a Hawaii offense that’s able to throw at will.
The Rainbow Warrior attack isn’t as strong as the Utah State thing that just ripped through the Cougars for a 45-20 win, but it’s more than good enough to keep things moving.
It wouldn’t be crazy if Hawaii won this outright … and it’s getting 11.
