Temple (3-3) vs. Navy (2-3) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
A rematch of the 2016 American Athletic Conference championship is now a fight for survival.
Navy can’t get the season going, losing two straight games, including a rough blowout at Air Force a week after losing at SMU. With a brutal second half of the schedule – Houston, Notre Dame, at Cincinnati. and UCF are up next – forget about a bowl game with a loss here.
Temple has won three of its last four games, and it’s coming off a brilliant performance against East Carolina with a 49-6 win. With Cincinnati, at UCF, at Houston and USF up next, like Navy’s situation, a bowl appearance might be a long shot with a loss here.
The Navy secondary hasn’t been pushed since getting rocked by Hawaii in the opener, but it has to now deal with an improved Owl offense.
Temple freshman Anthony Russo is coming off a huge performance against East Carolina, connecting on 21-of-25 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns with a pick, a week after throwing for 255 yards against BC.
But can Temple stop the Navy ground game?
It hit a wall against Air Force last week, getting stuffed on third down after third down, finishing with just 178 yards of total offense. The Owl linebackers have been okay so far, but this week, Shaun Bradley, Isaiah Graham-Mobley and company have to get behind the line like Air Force did.
Navy is dead last in the country in tackles for loss. That’s going to be a problem against this Owl O.
