SEC Week 6 Thoughts, Recaps, What Happened & What Mattered

2. Mississippi State 23, Auburn 9

Well there’s the Mississippi State running game we were all looking forward to. That it came out to play against the killer Auburn defensive front might be one of the biggest stunners of the SEC season so far – besides that Kentucky thing, of course.

Nick Fitzgerald looked like his old self again, tearing off 195 yards and two scores. Kylin Hill added 126 yards on the ground, and in all, Mississippi State looked and played like … it looked and played like Auburn is supposed to.

The Tigers don’t have a running game. The Mississippi State defensive front might be outstanding, but this is a Gus Malzahn coached team that just ran for 90 yards.

The offensive line isn’t getting the job done, Jarrett Stidham – who threw for 214 yards and no scores – isn’t making the difference an NFL-caliber quarterback should, and three field goals is all this O could come up with?

But for a MSU team that looked like it was about to buckle with two straight ugly losses with the offense hitting the wall, holding on to the ball for over 41 minutes, and letting Fitzgerald be Fitzgerald is exactly what it needed.
