Rutgers (1-7) vs. Wisconsin (5-3) Game Preview
One Reason Why Rutgers Will Win
The Wisconsin passing game isn’t exactly a disaster with Alex Hornibrook out with a concussion, but it’s not a threat.
Don’t let the 20-of-31, 158-yard, one touchdown day against Northwestern fool you – the Badgers couldn’t throw the ball when it mattered in the ugly 31-17 loss.
The Rutgers run defense has had two weeks off to rest up after stopping Northwestern and holding its ground attack to just 128 yards in the 18-15 loss.
The Scarlet Knight defense might have a whole slew of issues, but it can get behind the line, and the secondary is only allowing 184 yards per game.
The Badgers aren’t going to start turning it loose if and when Coan is back under center. Rutgers is about to sell out, it’ll hope Jonathan Taylor will keep fumbling, and it’ll need even more of the Badger mistakes made in Evanston.
One Reason Why Wisconsin Will Win
At some point, the Badger offensive line will start to play up to its talent level.
The Badger running game weren’t able to pick up the slack against Northwestern to make up for the quarterback issues, and the ground game only ran for 165 yards.
So far this year, the Badgers are 0-3 when running for 210 yards or fewer, and 5-0 when hitting that mark or more. Even if Rutgers comes up with a big performance defensively, it’s asking a whole lot to slow down what’s coming.
The Scarlet Knights have allowed more than 210 yards in four of the seven games, and giving up an average of 224 yards per game.
After his fumbles last week, and after getting bottled up, watch out for Jonathan Taylor to be Jonathan Taylor again.
What’s Going To Happen
Wisconsin has quickly fallen into the discussion of the nation’s most disappointing teams, but it looked great against Illinois a few weeks ago, and it’s going to do that against a Rutgers squad with one of the nation’s worst offenses.
The Badger program under Paul Chryst never gets too high or too low, but after what happened last week, it’ll look the part on both sides of the ball.
The ground game will work, and the defense will come up with third down stop after third down stop.
