Path To The College Football Playoff: Who's Still Alive After Week 7? What's Going To Happen?

Big 12

Oklahoma (5-1)

The Path to the College Football Playoff: The Sooners picked the right weekend to have off. With Georgia losing, they caught a break, but they need Notre Dame to lose. The SEC Championship still might be an issue if Georgia wins out and beats Alabama, but this was a great last few days for a whole slew of reasons.

What Will Happen: There won’t be another misstep. The change in defensive coordinators will make a big difference, the offense will come back roaring, and it’ll be a breathtaking run through the rest of the schedule, a win over Texas in the Big 12 title game, and the No. 3 spot in the College Football Playoff.

Texas (6-1)

The Path to the College Football Playoff: It’s all there. Win out, and the Maryland loss will be forgiven. It would be nice if Notre Dame lost once, and it would be a huge help if Alabama went 13-0 – giving the SEC East champ a second loss – but with the way things are shaking out, going 12-1 might just be enough.

What Will Happen: How hurt is Sam Ehlinger? The Longhorns get two weeks off, but they’ll drop one more regular season game before losing to Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game.

West Virginia (5-1)

The Path to the College Football Playoff: That was a devastating loss to Iowa State, but the Mountaineers can still get in by winning out and going 11-1. The juice from beating Oklahoma and Texas – and one of them twice – would probably be enough to get the job done, but it’s going to take some help.

What Will Happen: Nope. The Mountaineers aren’t winning at Texas, at Oklahoma State and against Oklahoma. There will be another loss along the way.
