The Path to the College Football Playoff: Almost no one benefitted more from the wacky Saturday than Clemson. Win out, and get in – no questions asked. Not that it was going to be a problem before, but now, 13-0 is a lock in at least the No. 3 spot. Go 12-1 with an ACC Championship – get in.
What Will Happen: Who in this awful ACC is going to beat the Tigers? NC State? Maybe. There are some landmines, and South Carolina won’t be a breeze, but they’ll go 11-1, roll through the ACC title game, and go back to the CFP.
NC State (5-0)
The Path to the College Football Playoff: It’s all there on the table. Get to 12-0 with an ACC title, and get in. The ACC isn’t anything special, so if the Pack can shock Clemson next week on the road, the path is there to get to the ACC title game at 11-0. Even 11-1 with a Power Five championship should do it.
What Will Happen: The Pack will lose to Clemson, but it’ll be a blast of a ride going into the finishing kick. They’ll be in the hunt for a New Year’s Six game.
Notre Dame (7-0)
The Path to the College Football Playoff: The Irish couldn’t have asked for anything more. With Georgia losing, the SEC East is out if the division winner doesn’t win the conference title game. Forget Penn State, and with Colorado and West Virginia losing, the Pac-12 and Big 12, respectively, can’t keep Notre Dame out. Now it’s there … 12-0 is a guaranteed trip to the CFP.
What Will Happen: They’ll drop one game along the way with four of the last five games away from South Bend. It’ll go 11-0 going into the USC game, and blow it.
