Ohio (3-2) vs. Northern Illinois (3-3) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Northern Illinois has won three of its last four games, but it’s doing it without an offense. The passing game is one of the worst in the nation – it’s dead last in yards per completion – but the ground game has been terrific with over 200 yards in each of the last two games and four scores.
But the short passing game might just work against the nation’s worst defense at stopping teams on third downs.
The Bobcats can’t stop the pass in any way, but again, there’s no fear of that this week. The defense has been a massive disappointment, but it’s been making up for some of the problems with takeaways, and help from the running game. However, QB Nathan Rourke – the team’s leading rusher – is banged up and questionable.
Northern Illinois still won’t throw all that well, but with its first home game since mid-September, the defense will be outstanding at getting into the backfield and the ground game will run at will.
And yes, QB Marcus Childers will throw for 200 yards on the leaky Ohio defense. The Huskies will move the chains both on the ground and through the air with a great win to make a big move in the MAC race.
