Ohio State (5-0) vs. Indiana (4-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Indiana Will Win
Is it possible Ohio State is gassed from the emotional and tough win over Penn State?
That shouldn’t matter, however, Indiana isn’t going to be a total pushover if it’s able to come up with a few key defensive plays. The Hoosiers lead the Big Ten with 13 takeaways, and they have to generate several and convert on them all.
They don’t have the speed or athleticism to stay on the field with the Buckeyes – duh – but they should be able to control the clock at times and run a wee bit if Peyton Ramsey can get loose.
The Ohio State defense held everything about the Penn State ground attack to a dead stop, but it couldn’t figure out how to keep Trace McSorley from getting loose. Ramsey isn’t McSorley, but he can run just enough to be dangerous when he gets a little room to move – that has to be the hope.
Accurate, he’s not going to throw deep on the Buckeye secondary, but he’s hitting 71% of his passes. The potential is there to dink and dunk to keep the O moving just enough to be annoying. However …
One Reason Why Ohio State Will Win
Ramsey might complete a ton of passes, but they don’t go anywhere. There aren’t any yards after the catcher and there aren’t any big deep plays happening on a regular basis.
This isn’t the week the IU offense that’s 127th in the nation in yards per completion will start airing it out. Worst of all for Indiana, Ohio State doesn’t give the ball away. The Hoosiers can’t do this – or keep it close – without being at least +3 in turnover margin, and so far, Ohio State has lost the ball just three times, with two of hose coming in the opener against Oregon State.
The problem for Indiana is the same issue everyone is having with Ohio State. It’s possible to hang around with this team – TCU and Penn State were able to do it – and then comes the explosion.
The Buckeyes have so many devastating athletes and offensive playmakers, that it doesn’t matter if it’s a struggle for a bit. If they can turn it on like that late against Penn State, they can certainly do it against Indiana. The Hoosiers will have to pitch a perfect 60 minute game, and they’re just not strong enough to do it.
What’s Going To Happen
Ohio State will be sharp at home from the start. Indiana is better than it’ll show in Columbus, but the Buckeyes will hit a few early home runs and coast from there.
IU will come up with a few points – there will be a lull – but it’ll be a comfortable victory as the Buckeyes keep on rolling.
