One Reason Why Florida State Will Win

The offense is starting to work.

It’s not exactly Jameis Winston or Charlie Ward bombing away to Peter Warrick, Snoop Minnis or Anquan Boldin, but at least the passing game has been able to get points on the board in the wins over Louisville and Northern Illinois.

Deondre Francois opened it up against NIU for 352 yards, and cranked out 11 yards per throw against Louisville. At least for the moment, the explosive element is back.

The run defense has been a rock almost all year. It struggled in the Carrier Dome against Syracuse, but it’s allowed under three yards per carry this season and no one has gone over four yards per pop.

Even with N’Kosi Perry taking over, the Miami offense has been fine – not amazing. The running attack has been on, but that’s after getting stuffed by LSU. FSU is by far the second-best defense the Canes have dealt with so far.

One Reason Why Miami Will Win

Yeah, the Florida State offense has been productive lately, but the line is still a massive question mark.

And now, it has to deal with the Miami defensive pressure.

The Canes are on pace to obliterate last year’s 111 tackle for loss mark with 60 so far this year. They at North Carolina’s lunch last week with 14 plays behind the line, and since the LSU game, they’ve come up with a ridiculous 52 tackles for loss.

That feeds into the turnovers, which feeds into the Turnover Chain, with gets the momentum rolling for the Canes.

Dead last in the ACC – and 122nd in the nation – in tackles for loss allowed, and, with the worst running game in the conference, FSU had better be able to throw and keep throwing successfully because nothing else is going to work.

What’s Going To Happen

Sometimes defying all logic and reason in terms of talent disparity, the last four meetings between these two have been very, very close, decided by 13 total points.

Miami is way better on both side of the ball than FSU, and it’s defensive front should take over and dominate, but to go there …

It’s Miami vs. Florida State.

Miami was way better last year, too, and it needed a minor miracle to pull off the 24-20 win. The Seminole defense will keep the game tight, but when the offensive side has to go on a march on a few key late drives, the Cane defense will have something to say about it.
