Kentucky (5-0) vs. Texas A&M (3-2) Game Preview
One Reason Why Kentucky Will Win
You know exactly what’s coming, but can Texas A&M hit it?
Kentucky is going to run Benny Snell, and Terry Wilson will take off from time to time to overcome the lack of a passing game, but it all works.
While Snell would be in the running for a college football MVP honor – he’s carrying this offense on his back – LB Josh Allen isn’t far off for a terrific defense that’s holding everyone in check.
Allen is going Khalil Mack with 33 tackles with six sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss so far for a D that’s leading all SEC teams – Alabama and LSU, too – allowing just 12.6 points per game and is 12th in the nation overall allowing just 289 yards per pouting.
Get Snell going, control the clock, let the defense stuff the run, and hope the formula keeps on working. Few teams are able to execute what they’re able to do better.
One Reason Why Texas A&M Will Win
It might have been a rocky performance against Arkansas, but the two losses are to Clemson and Alabama – this A&M team is doing just fine.
The defense is the best in the SEC at getting off the field, ranking third in the nation on third downs thanks to a run defense that’s allowing an SEC-low 85 yards per game.
Kentucky likes to run the ball, by the way. Wilson has been good for the offense, but he’s not a passer who can get things going if A&M stuffs Snell.
Worst of all for the Wildcats, they need to control the clock and the tempo – Texas A&M leads the SEC in time of possession.
The Aggies have the explosion to get the passing game going, but they also showed last week that they can get by when things aren’t working all that well.
What’s Going To Happen
It’s been an amazing run for Kentucky, and this team is the real deal – especially with Snell along with that defense – but Texas A&M has the right make-up and mix to come up with the win.
The Aggies won’t shut down Snell cold, but they’ll do just enough to force Wilson to win this, and he won’t be able to. A&M will score early, and UK won’t be able to get over the hump.
