Georgia State (2-3) vs. Troy (4-1) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Troy hasn’t been the offensive thrill ride of last year, but its defense was good enough to hold down Nebraska, and the team survived dates against ULM and Coastal Carolina to stay up in the East. This is Georgia State’s time to get into the chase.
The Panthers also beat ULM, with a defense that rose up and pulled off a stunner after three straight brutal performances. Last in the nation in tackles for loss and without any big production happening against the run, the D isn’t carrying a mediocre O that controls the clock, but doesn’t go on big marches.
Troy has enough of a ground attack to take advantage of the problems on the Panther defensive front. BJ Smith is coming off a 103-yard day against the Chanticleers, and Jabir Daughtry-Frye ripped off a few big runs on the way to 140 yard on just five carries.
It won’t be that bad this week, but Troy will get up and turn it over to its defense with the killer pass rush. Troy can get into the backfield, and Georgia State won’t.
