Georgia Southern (4-1) vs. Texas State (1-4) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
It’s this simple – does Texas State have a prayer of stopping the Georgia Southern option attack?
The machine is humming, ripping off 300 yards on the ground in three of the five games, only going under against Clemson, and cranking out 295 yards in the blowout win over South Alabama.
Shai Werts is running the attack just fine, and while there might not be a whole slew of big home runs on the ground, it’s a brutally effective O with the ground game among the best in the country, and with the passing game doing just enough when it has to – and that’s the key.
Werts was just okay as a passer – to be nice – but he’s cranking up the big throws to take advantage of defenses selling out against the run. He’s only throwing a few times per game, but he’s averaging well over ten yards per toss.
But can Texas State stop it all? It just got hit for over 300 rushing yards by Louisiana, and worst of all, the defensive pressure still isn’t there.
The Bobcats are last in the nation in sacks, there’s not enough pressure from the line, and while Bryan London is among the Sun Belt’s best linebackers and players, he can’t do it all.
Texas State hasn’t been miserable over the last few weeks, but the defense just isn’t going to get off the field enough. The Eagle offense will take over the game in the second half and pull away.
