Fresno State (5-1) vs. New Mexico (3-3) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
The Fresno State defense has kicked it back in, stomping Nevada and Wyoming allowing just a field goal in each game.
The schedule is nice and easy until the date at Boise State next month and with the showdown against San Diego State, but first the Bulldogs have to drop the Lobos.
New Mexico continues to fight the good fight without QB Tevaka Tuioti, but it’s staying alive by alternating losses with wins. After losing to Colorado State last week, if the pattern holds, this is the Lobos’ week. So how does it happen?
The quick-hitting New Mexico offense has to get the passing game going right away and get on the board early. QB Sheriron Jones has been able to get the passing game going in Tuioti’s absence, and he has to be sharp from the start.
It really is possible to throw on the Fresno State defense – as long as he doesn’t start throwing picks. He’s gone without an interception in the last two games, and now he has to keep the chains moving to keep the Bulldog offense off the field.
The problem is a Lobo pass defense that gets hit for too many big yards.
Marcus McMaryion has been fabulous all season long, and he’s not got to make the giant mistakes to get the Bulldogs beat on the road. He’ll hit the midrange passes, rely on the swarming defense to get to the Lobo backfield before it can get going, and keep the momentum rolling.
