Five Biggest Upset Alerts: Week 8

3. Old Dominion at WKU

LINE: WKU -4, o/u: 56

Old Dominion is better than this.

It had its one big moment against Virginia Tech, but the defense hasn’t shown up all season long, and the good offense hasn’t been able to keep up the pace.

Close, the Monarchs were able to push East Carolina on the road in a two-point loss, and battled in a road loss to Charlotte by three.

That the line is WKU -4 really might make a difference.

The bigger deal, though, is the Hilltoppers’ sputtering O. The defense hasn’t been miserable, but it has to get ready for a Monarch passing game that’s been brilliant over the last month. Blake LaRussa is a machine, and he’ll keep the pressure on in the high-scoring shootout.

This is a game WKU has to win. It started out as a -5 before the line wavered around a bit, but it’s been unable to win tight games – it lost to Maine 31-28 at home – and just got rocked by Charlotte 40-14.

The Monarchs will bring the points. WKU hasn’t scored more than 17 in three of its last four games, and has to get ready to play at a level it hasn’t been able to hit so far.
