Duke (4-1) vs. Georgia Tech (3-3) Game Preview
One Reason Why Duke Will Win
The Blue Devils have the linebackers who can handle the Georgia Tech offense.
They already saw an option offense this season, and they didn’t have any problems keeping the Army attack under wraps, giving up just 168 yards and fewer than four yards per carry.
Last year against Georgia Tech? They allowed 277 yards – not bad against this group – in a 43-20 win.
Safety Dylan Singleton is having a great year against the run, and the 1-2 linebacking punch of Ben Humphreys and Joe Giles-Harris is as experienced, smart, and tough as any twosome in the ACC. Humphreys missed last year’s game against the Yellow Jackets, but Giles-Harris made 14 tackles.
Yeah, but …
One Reason Why Georgia Tech Will Win
This thing is humming.
Even though defenses might know everything to do correctly against the option, and even though the Duke linebackers are as good as there can be to deal with it, but it still might not matter.
Clemson’s defensive front was able to stuff the offense, but that’s an epic group of linemen – Duke doesn’t have that.
On the year, Georgia Tech has rushed for 320 yards or more against everyone else, and turned it up a notch last week against Louisville with 542 yards and eight touchdowns a week after running for eight scores against Bowling Green.
TaQuon Marshall has been brilliant at running the show, and backup Tobias Oliver is getting into the mix, too, with two straight 100-yard games. There are so many pieces producing right now, even if you prepare for the scheme, it’s still impossible to deal with all of the great runners.
What’s Going To Happen
Duke is about to fight fire with fire.
It’ll do just enough against the Georgia Tech option to avoid getting ripped to shreds, and its own running game will keep the chains moving.
There’s not enough pressure from the Yellow Jacket defensive front to get into the Duke backfield, and it’ll show with a good enough day from the passing game to keep the chains moving.
Best of all for the Blue Devils, they’ve had two weeks to rest up and prepare for what’s coming. They’ll be ready.
