What’s Going To Happen
It’s time for Boise State to be impressive again.
It struggled too much with Nevada last week, lost at home to San Diego State, and it still has nasty games to go with Fresno State and Utah State still to deal with. If this team really is any good, it rises up and rocky the Rams.
Colorado State has won two straight after a 1-4 start, but its offense hasn’t been able to blow up with 20 points or fewer in three of the last four games. The defense has been a bigger issue without the ability to get into the backfield, and the run defense hasn’t been able to do enough.
Worst of all, the Rams have one of the nation’s least efficient pass defenses. It’s getting hit for nine yards per attempt and it’s not taking the ball away enough.
Enter Brett Rypien, who was brilliant over the first four games – throwing 12 touchdown passes and no picks – but threw just two touchdown passes with five interceptions over the last two games.
He should be sharp. Expect him to slow down with the mistakes, the running game to balance things out, and the Boise State offense to start to look like itself. With the pass rush taking over in the second half, the Bronco defense will do its part, too.
