What’s Going To Happen
It hasn’t been a great season for the defending East champs, but Akron is still in the mix for a bowl game with a not-bad back half, but the offense has to start working.
Central Michigan was supposed to be a whole lot better, but it has yet to beat an FBS team.
Something has to give between the two middling offenses and struggling teams.
The Akron defense has been good enough to get by, but the offense just can’t score. There’s no ground game, and there’s no punch for an attack that’s only averaging 317 yards per game. There’s no pass rush, but the secondary hasn’t been awful.
It’s going to look great, though, against this Central Michigan offense.
There are too many turnovers, there’s no chain-moving, and the massive inefficiency in the passing game is part of the MAC’s worst offense and least efficient passing game.
However, the Chippewa defense has been able to keep the team alive. It’s great against mediocre passing teams, but that’s partly because the run defense is so leaky.
Akron games are never, ever pretty, but when the defense is able to slow everything down and come up with a few takeaways, the team survives.
If either team can get up early, it’s over. But neither offense has the ability to blow up and put the game away early.
Akron’s defense will come up with enough third down stops, and will force a few key turnovers, to help the awful offense generate a few easy points.
First one to 20 wins? It might be just that easy.
