Boston College (4-1) vs. NC State (4-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Boston College Will Win
The Eagles have to come up with picks. This is a pure passing NC State team that has to get the offense bombing away early – there’s just no running game – but that plays into BC’s hands.
There weren’t any picks against Purdue – the only loss of the season – but there were two in every other game. All of them were wins.
Overall, the pass defense has done its job. It gives up yards, but it doesn’t get ripped apart, and outside of that Purdue game, it’s great at keeping everything in check. There’s lot of dinking and dunking against this group, but there aren’t a whole lot to big bombs.
The defense has to come up with a big performance because …
One Reason Why NC State Will Win
AJ Dillon isn’t right.
The star Boston College running back suffered an ankle injury in last week’s win over Temple. Even if he’s able to go, he’s not going to be his normal self – and the Eagles need him to be great after running for 196 yards and a score in last year’s 17-14 loss to the Wolfpack.
There are other options, but QB Anthony Brown hasn’t been the runner like he was before suffering a torn ACL that knocked him out last season. Overall, the BC offense has been able to move, but it all centers around a healthy Dillon.
The Wolfpack offense revolves around QB Ryan Finley, and it continues to work. Even when he didn’t bomb away for over 300 yards – like last week in the win over Virginia – he was on, hitting 69% of his passes for 257 yards and three scores.
This is a payback game for the future NFL starter after coming up with his worst game of his 2017 by far, completing just 14-of-33 passes in last year’s win over the Eagles.
What’s Going To Happen
This is hardly a perfect NC State team, but it’s going to keep on rolling without a blemish.
Finley will be good enough under the Boston College defensive pressure, but it’s going to be the Wolfpack defensive side that will take over the game. The run D held Virginia to just 3.2 yards per carry and 93 yards on the ground, and it’ll be almost as strong at home this week, too.
