Baylor (4-3) vs. West Virginia (5-1) Game Preview

One Reason Why Baylor Will Win

Throw and keep on throwing.

The Bears might not have the Big 12’s best passing game, but Charlie Brewer has been effective enough to keep the team in games with just about anyone.

If this gets into a shootout, Baylor can keep up.

Brewer isn’t going up with the big deep shots Will Grier is, but he’s doing a great job of dinking and dunking for seven yards a throw and hitting 220 yards or more five of the last six games with ten touchdown passes and just two picks.

The Bears are great at moving the chains, Brewer is fantastic on third downs, and they’re amazing at controlling the clock. There’s tempo to the attack, and the team should do a nice job of keeping Grier off the field.

No one’s going off on the Mountaineer defense, but it’s giving up over 200 passing yards in the Big 12 games so far. Brewer will have a strong day.

One Reason Why West Virginia Will Win

Go ahead, Will Grier. Let ‘er rip.

Baylor has come up with three picks in its last two games, but this isn’t a defense that generates a whole lot of takeaways with just five interceptions in all on the year. The two against Kansas State mattered, but the Wildcats didn’t have the pop to overcome it. West Virginia does.

Grier might have had a few interception issues since Big 12 play kicked in – with six so far, including three against Kansas – but he’s been able to overcome them with massive passing performances.

Until the Iowa State game.

With two weeks off to sit and stew on the horrible performance in Ames, get ready for the West Virginia offense to come back roaring.

Even after the horrible game, and even with the picks, this is still the third-most efficient passing game in college football.

Baylor will be solid with the midrange passing game. West Virginia will likely bomb away for over ten yards per throw.

With the way the Mountaineers can get the defense into the backfield, this is the best scoring D in the Big 12, allowing 20.5 points per game. Who’s last in the league? Baylor, giving up 31 points per game.

What’s Going To Happen

Expect this to be a blast.

Both passing games will go off, but West Virginia will be amazing after the Iowa State debacle. Grier will come up with well over 300 yards, doing a strong job of getting ahead early, and answering everything Baylor will do.

The Mountaineer defense will come up with steady enough defensive pressure when it has to, and then Grier and the offense will take advantage of its opportunities.
