Ball State (3-5) vs. Ohio (4-3) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Ohio is in a dogfight to keep up with Miami University and Buffalo in the East race – both of them are on the schedule in a few weeks. But lose this, and with a date at Western Michigan, there can’t be a slip against the Cardinals.
This is it for Ball State. At 3-5, and with road games at Toledo and Miami coming up, and with Western Michigan to deal with, too, all but blow off any hopes for a bowl game if it can’t pull this off.
The Cardinal offense has been good enough. It’s amazing at keeping the chains moving, and it’s generating enough offense to keep up with anyone in the conference. But the passing game isn’t effective enough, and for this game, the lack of a run defense is a problem.
The Cardinals aren’t going to come up with enough key stops.
The Ohio offense has been way too inconsistent, but when it’s on, the ground game owns and dominates. It rolled at will against UMass a few weeks ago, and destroyed Bowling Green last week.
It’s not going to flirt with 400 yards like it did in those two games, but it’ll control the clock.
Nathan Rourke – who ran for 101 yards against the Falcons – has been throwing well, too. Ball State will keep up, but it’ll seem like Rourke and company always have the ball.
