Army (3-2) vs. San Jose State (0-5) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
It’s not the College Football Playoff national championship, but it’s being played where the title game will be on January 7th.
San Jose State hasn’t won a game, but it’s playing a whole lot better.
There’s no running game, but the passing attack has come up with three touchdown passes in each of the last two games. The pass defense has been a disaster, but the run defense has been tough, led by tackling machine Jamal Scott and a not-that-bad linebacking corps.
But dealing with the Army running game is a different animal.
The Knights ran for just 281 yards against Buffalo two weeks ago – and they won by 29 points.
They’re not coming up with the big, gashing home runs the option attack normally creates, but they’re great at working the clock, connecting on the deep passes when needed, and destroying the time of possession battle, holding on to the ball for over 40 minutes per game.
Keep the Army defense off the field, and everything will be just fine.
San Jose State will come up with a few decent scoring drives, but it’ll only have the ball for about 15-to-18 minutes. Third down conversions will mean everything to the Spartans, and they won’t come up with enough of them.
