Army (5-2) vs. Eastern Michigan (4-4) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
It’s one of the best off-the-beaten path games of the weekend.
Eastern Michigan – you know, the team that beat Purdue – is on a two game winning streak. In the shocker of all shockers, it not only won, but the team that couldn’t seem able to play a game that wasn’t close blew away Ball State by 22 points.
Going bowling won’t be a problem – the finishing kick of the schedule is nice and breezy – but beating Army would be one of those moments that prove just how legit the team really is.
So, can it stop the run?
The Eagles are great at winning the turnover battle, and they’re amazing at picking off passes, but the defensive front doesn’t get behind the line and slowing down good running games is a problem, allowing 200 yards or more in three of the last four games.
The Army machine keeps on rolling, winning three straight and five of the last six games – the only loss was to Oklahoma. It struggled a bit getting by Miami University last week, but it’s now rushed for 300 yards or more against everyone but Buffalo over the last six games.
Eastern Michigan always finds a way to battle hard and stay in games, but it doesn’t do enough to control the clock, and it’s not going to slow down an Army ground game that’s able to replace key parts and keep on moving.
Will starting quarterback Kevin Hopkins be able to roll? If not, freshman Cam Thomas should be ready after running for 137 yards last week against MU, and 74 the week before against Buffalo.
However, it’s Eastern Michigan. It’ll go back to playing close games again.
