Alabama (5-0) vs. Arkansas (1-4) Game Preview
One Reason Why Arkansas Will Win
The Hogs actually didn’t play all that poorly in the loss to Texas A&M. That might not be anything to get too excited about, but the defense showed up as the game went on in the 24-17 loss.
The D hasn’t been the problem. It’s the offensive side.
Getting into the backfield hasn’t been that big of a problem – coming up with 35 tackles for loss on the year – and it’s been great so far at coming up with third down stops. Most surprisingly, considering the issues overall, the Hogs are great against the run, allowing teams to hit just three yards per carry.
It’s not like they’ve gone against a whole slate of cupcakes – they held Auburn to just 91 yards – and Texas A&M didn’t run wild. Alabama is a different animal, but there’s a shot the D doesn’t get steamrolled over.
One Reason Why Alabama Will Win
There’s a bad thing brewing here when the Arkansas passing game gives it a shot.
The stats are skewed because of one really, really bad six-pick day against North Texas, but Arkansas is dead last in college football with the most interceptions thrown, with ten.
Alabama is second in the nation in interceptions behind … North Texas. It has come up with two in every game except for the blowout over Arkansas State – it only came up with one.
Speaking of interceptions, Tua Tagovailoa has yet to throw one.
The nation’s most efficient passer went 8-for-8 against Louisiana last week for 128 yards and two scores. Bama is averaging a ridiculous 12.7 yards per throw, and it’s not going to have much of a problem hitting that mark against this Hog secondary.
What’s Going To Happen
Can Arkansas be plucky for a second week in a row? It’ll put up a fight at home for a few drives, and then Bama will go Bama. The defense will be the star as the Tide offense struggles just a wee bit – at least for them. They’ll still do their college football performance art thing.
