Two key themes for Week 3. First, it’s a big weekend for winnable games for good Group of Five programs vs. okay Power Fivers. Second, there are some HUGE numbers out there among the big boys. Too big, for many.

This is all just for spits, giggles, and entertainment purposes only. However, just in case you dabble …

It should go without saying that the only thing that truly matters this weekend is the safety of all those dealing with the wrath of Florence. So to be crass, in football investment terms, this is a strange weekend. The changes haven’t mattered too much so far – the Charlotte-Old Dominion and Boston College-Wake Forest games didn’t veer too far off the expectations. But this Saturday for a large portion of the country isn’t going to seem quite right – for obvious reasons.

The Memphis offense needs to show up again. It struggled and sputtered in the loss to Navy, and there were a whole lot of mistakes. The Tigers will get up quickly against Georgia State and get by without a problem, but be happy that the line went from 27 to 28.5 after opening at 23. The Panthers have just enough of a defense to keep this within four touchdowns.

What about the UTEP 28-point loss to UNLV would possibly make you think it’ll come any closer against Tennessee? The Vols might not be all that great, but at the moment, their in the business of blowing out teams – if they can. They’ll take any chance they can get to roll, and that includes the backups cranking it up, too.

So what’s more real, the Indiana 2-0 start with a rain-soaked win over Virginia along the way, or the Ball State performance against a bored and sluggish Notre Dame last week? It might be a little bit of the two.

Okay, so that doesn’t help you.

The Cardinals are much better now that they’re healthy, but this is still a solid and confident Big Ten team they’re dealing with. Very, very, very lightly go with the Hoosiers by more than two touchdowns.

Hate, hate, hate what happened with Temple at Maryland. The line was nice and easy at Terps -14 to open. Fine – the Terps were the call. All good on the Terps at 15.5, too, although not as much. Now it’s up to 17. Temple isn’t going to win, but it’s way overdue to come up with a game just good enough to keep the score low. If you have go one way, go with the hot Big Ten squad.

By the way, the total shot up, too, from 50.5 to 55. Under, if you must.

Ehhhhhhhh, FIU at home against UMass? Whatever narrative you like for this game, you’re probably right. The Golden Panthers don’t have much of an offense so far, and the secondary hasn’t been great, but the Minutemen haven’t been any good since the blowout against Duquesne. FIU holds on to the ball for over 35 minutes in a low-scoring win.

Don’t overthink Miami going to Toledo. The Hurricane defense has been terrific so far, the offense isn’t going against the LSU D, and Malik Rosier will repeat last year’s resplendent performance against the Rockets. 10.5 is a large number on the road – assume the Cane defense takes care of you here.
Miami vs. Toledo Game Preview & Prediction

Hawaii isn’t going to have the ball enough against Army. I know, I know, I know, the Rainbow Warriors have been your late night addiction, but this is a day game on the road. Kickoff is at 6 am Hawaii time – the Rainbow Warrior circadian rhythm will be off. That, and the Black Knights are No. 1 in the nation in time of possession.
