Virginia (1-0) vs. Indiana (1-0) Game Preview

One Reason Why Virginia Will Win

Bryce Perkins was supposed to be good – he had a strong offseason – and then he turned out to be just that fantastic.

The Arizona State transfer took over the starting quarterback job right away, and he showed off his upside with 185 yards and two scores through the air in the 42-13 win over Richmond, and ran for 108 yards and two scores.

He wasn’t alone, with Jordan Ellis running for 146 yards and two touchdowns for an offense that clicked from the start and rolled through the first half.

The Cavs have a better offense now, the defense should be every bit as strong as last year’s version, and the team is in place to fit what Bronco Mendenhall likes to do.

One Reason Why Indiana Will Win

The Indiana offense clicked, too.

The Hoosiers went into an interesting road game at FIU, and cake away with a relatively easy 38-28 win. Peyton Ramsey showed why he was named the starter – hitting 20-of-27 passes with three scores – and the defense did its part with three takeaways and kept the game from being dramatic.

Ramsey spread the ball around well, the running game was steady, and while the O might not be scintillating, it was and will be effective.

For all the good things Virginia did in the opener, the O line had a hard time in pass protection. The Hoosiers have to live in the backfield and get to Perkins.

What’s Going To Happen

It was a moment last season for Indiana.

The Hoosiers were still trying to get used to new head coach Tom Allen when they went into the road game at Virginia. They came away with a strong 34-17 win over the Cavaliers, but they didn’t go bowling, and UVa did.

This year, the game will be a moment for Virginia.

Perkins will have a strong game, the defense will stall and frustrated the Hoosier offense – especially the ground game – and the ACC will come up with a nice road win.
