USF (3-0) vs. East Carolina (1-1) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Maybe East Carolina is like Kansas. It just needed one shocking win to get the ball rolling.
The Jayhawks dominated Central Michigan in a stunner, and then did it again against Rutgers. Two weeks ago, ECU pulled off an equally shocking performance with a 41-19 blasting of North Carolina, and then got an unwelcomed week off thanks to the hurricane.
But now it gets a shot to make a whole lot of noise in the American Athletic world against a hot USF team that survived Illinois in Chicago.
It took a late big scoring play to get the job done, but the Bulls are now 3-0 with wins over Georgia Tech and the Illini on the resume. With UMass, Tulsa and Connecticut up after the date with ECU, this is when the run has to come to 7-0 before going to Houston.
The USF run defense has had a massive problem so far, but playing Georgia Tech will do that. East Carolina has been strong in the first two games against the run, but the D has yet to come up with a takeaway.
Can the Pirate ground game crank it up like it did against North Carolina? It ran for 220 yards and four scores, but the O line isn’t going to dominate the USF defensive front.
Coming off a 411-yard day from Blake Barnett, the Bull passing game will go off early, and the defense will take care of the rest.
ECU will be okay, but it won’t be able to keep up once USF gets going with a good offensive balance.
