UMass (1-2) vs. FIU (1-1) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
It was a wee bit of a fight, but FIU got the winning going at Old Dominion last week, and with a trip to Miami coming up next, it’s win now, of face a likely 1-3 start – and realistically, a rough run to get back to a bowl game.
The fun UMass had in the blowout win over Duquesne to start the season fizzled away on the road at Boston College and Georgia Souther, but the offense is there to get back up and rolling yet again. There’s still time for a good season, but it has to start working now.
FIU has had a problem so far against the pass, and UMass can bomb away – unless the Golden Panther pass rush starts to work.
The Minutemen have no pass rush whatsoever, and they don’t control the clock for long stretches, so it’ll be a battle of the slow and go vs. the bombers.
UMass will hit over 60% of its passes, but will they go anywhere? FIU has to run well enough to set up easy third down chances, and then QB James Morgan has to convert.
The Golden Panthers will win the turnover battle – finally – and they’ll have the ball for close to 35 minutes to overcome a big day from the UMass passing game. It’ll take a long late drive to close things out.
