Texas (0-1) vs. Tulsa (1-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Tulsa Will Win
It wasn’t exactly an offensive explosion in the 38-27 win over a good – at least by FCS standards – Central Arkansas team – but at least the Golden Hurricane attack showed promise after last year’s disaster.
The running game came up with close to 300 yards, QB Luke Skipper had a nice all-round game, and suddenly, there was production. Can the other side of the ball hold up?
The always-rocky Tulsa defense held the Bears to 82 rushing yards, settling down overall after a tough first quarter. As long as the O is doing its part to keep the chains moving, this might just stay close. But …
One Reason Why Texas Will Win
It’s not like Texas is going to take this game easy.
It might be caught looking ahead to the USC date coming up, but the Maryland gaffe ended any concerns about a possible lack of focus.
The Tulsa offense wasn’t that great against Central Arkansas, and now the Longhorn D that came up so strong late against the Terps is about to shut down the Golden Hurricane running game cold.
This is a game for the lines. Texas was shoved around too much by the Maryland defensive front, but the Longhorn D line was fine. This is when the Texas offensive side takes out its anger and frustration with a much, much better performance from the running game.
What’s Going To Happen
Tulsa is about to run into a steamroller.
How did Texas do after last year’s loss to Maryland? 56-0 over San Jose State.
This Tulsa team is better than that SJSU squad, but the offense will stall way too often, the Texas attack will be crisp, and at least for a week, the Longhorns will look they were supposed to from the start.
