Texas Tech (0-1) vs. Lamar (1-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Lamar Will Win
The offense went off against Kentucky Christian.
The Cardinals came up with a. huge game from the ground attack, ripping off 409 yards and second scores, and QB Darrel Colbert was sharp, completing 12-of-15 passes for 179 yards and three scores. He did throw a pick, but the offense was a machine in the easy win.
Lamar might not have an Ole Miss-like passing game, but it should be able to keep up and get that ground game going. Rebel RB Scottie Phillips ran for 204 yards and two scores – the Cardinals should at least hit the 200-yard mark.
One Reason Why Texas Tech Will Win
Even with McLane Carter hurting with a high ankle sprain, the Red Raiders should be able to get that passing game rolling now that Alan Bowman has a little time in the system.
It was the defense that was the problem in the 47-27 loss to Ole Miss. The O could’ve been a little sharper, but Bowman completed 29-of-49 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown. TJ Vasher and the receiving corps showed promise, and now, even against a good Lamar pass rush, it should be target practice time for long stretches.
What’s Going To Happen
Texas Tech really, really needs this to be a light and easy win, but Lamar will be just pesky enough to make this a game for a little while.
The Red Raider defense will make amends for the problems against Ole Miss with a good day from the secondary, but it’ll take about a half for the offense to pull away to make this a true breather.
