Texas State (1-1) vs. South Alabama (0-2) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
Texas State finally got to have a little fun after a few rough years and a blowout loss. Beating Texas Southern was nice, but getting by South Alabama to kick off the Sun Belt season would be a massive deal for head coach Everett Withers and the program that’s been struggling so hard to move forward.
The defense has been able to take away the ball five times so far, and the ground game showed off last week with 306 yards. The Bobcats were able to move the chains. South Alabama hasn’t had any success doing that.
Dead last in the nation in third down conversions – hitting on just 20% of their chances – the Jaguars need to finally start to find something offensively that works under Steve Campbell.
The passing game has been a disaster, and the ground game hasn’t picked up the slack in losses to Louisiana Tech and Oklahoma State. But it’ll be the pass rush and the defensive front that has to be the difference.
Texas State will make this a battle, but at home, USA will finally break through with a good win and a little bit of success through the air. It’ll come down to a good late Jaguar drive in the fourth quarter to put it away.
