Stanford (2-0) vs. UC Davis (2-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why UC Davis Will Win
The Aggies have come up with a strong start to the season, with the offense blowing up on San Jose State before getting the offense rolling against San Diego.
Jake Maier and the passing game are among the best in the FCS, with an attack rolling for 411 yards per game for a relentless offense that should keep bombing away against a Cardinal secondary that hasn’t been tested yet.
Defensively, the Aggies are fantastic at taking the ball away with five forced turnovers so far, and best of all, they don’t have to face Bryce Love. He’s apparently banged up with a few undisclosed injuries – he’s being saved for Oregon. If the Cardinal are looking ahead to the next big Pac-12 game, UC Davis could be an issue. But …
One Reason Why Stanford Will Win
Cameron Scarlett should be able to pick up the slack for Love.
He’s not the talent that Love is, but he’s a good, tough veteran runner who should be able to handle the workload. So far, the running game hasn’t worked, but this week the Cardinal line will blast away.
But the passing game won’t have a problem, either.
Teams have to bomb away to keep up the pace so far against UC Davis, but the secondary really is able to be thrown on. Stanford should be able to get JJ Arcega-Whiteside and the air show going if it has to extend itself.

What’s Going To Happen
The Stanford defense will continue to be incredible.
It’s been a rock so far, and it’s about to close down a UC Davis attack that will have a little bit of success early on, and then it’ll all be over.
Stanford won’t extend itself, it’ll run Cameron 25 times, and it’ll be on to the Oregon showdown.
