Rutgers (1-1) vs. Kansas (1-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Rutgers Will Win
It’s not like the Kansas offense is rocking.
It’s struggling on third downs, it’s not doing anything down the field, and it’s not moving the ball, with just 308 yards per game over the first two weeks.
The Jayhawk offense needs help from the defense. If Rutgers is able to avoid the big mistakes, it should be able to take care of business on the other side with the pass rush.
The Rutgers defensive front needs to own the Kansas offensive line. If it does that, and capitalizes on all of its offensive opportunities, all will be fine. But …
One Reason Why Kansas Will Win
So what did Kansas do right in the stunning 31-7 win over Central Michigan? It forced lots and lots and lots of turnovers.
The defense was terrific – allowing just 280 yards – but it was the six takeaways with four picks that turned the game into a blowout.
Rutgers is having an interception issue with five so far in the first two games – it’s last among Big Ten teams in giveaways. And that improved offense that’s supposed to start rocking down the field more? It’s only averaging 279 yards per game.
Kansas will need the takeaways to win. It’ll get them.
What’s Going To Happen
Rutgers will keep the turnovers to a minimum – or, at least – will be tied or better in turnover margin.
The Knight pass rush will take over the game, the passing attack will be just okay enough to be timely, and it’ll get its second win of the year.
Kansas will go back to being … Kansas. At least for now.
