2. USC 43, UNLV 21
Okay … fine … but that needs to be it for the tune-ups with what’s coming up next against Stanford and Texas.
So JT Daniels isn’t the first overall pick in an upcoming NFL Draft quite yet, but he was more than okay in his debut, completing 22-of-35 passes for 282 yards and a score.
The running game helped him out a bit – spreading the wealth around for 219 yards and three scores – and Daniels’ fellow super-recruit Amon-Ra St. Brown caught seven passes for 98 yards and a score, but it wasn’t quite an air-tight all-around performance.
The defense couldn’t handle the 1-2 punch of UNLV RB Lexington Thomas and QB Armani Rogers – the two combined for 228 yards and a score. With Bryce Love – looking for redemption after getting stuffed by San Diego State – up next, the Trojans had better be ready for next week in a hurry.
It took a while to finally put the game away, but the defense pulled through when it absolutely had to, and the moment didn’t appear to be too big for Daniels.
He got the first game out of the way, and USC won by 22.
