One Reason Why Ole Miss Will Win

The Alabama thing is the Alabama thing – there’s nothing to be taken from that.

The passing game is still fantastic, the offense is still explosive, and it’s all about to blow up against a Kent State secondary that gives up lots and lots of big pass plays.

Helped by the bombs given up in the 63-10 loss to Penn State, the Golden Flash pass defense is allowing over nine yards per pass and a whole lot of yards after the catch.

Able to breathe again – without having to deal with the Bama defense – the Rebel air show should averages well over ten yards per throw with a whole lot of big plays.

Set the over/under on Rebel passing yards at around 350.

One Reason Why Kent State Will Win

One of Kent State’s biggest issues is a leaky offensive line that allows way too many big plays in the backfield. Fortunately, the Ole Miss defense doesn’t have much of a pass rush and doesn’t do enough behind the line to be a concern.

Yeah, the Rebel passing game is amazing, but the defense can get dinked and dunked on to death. No, Auburn transfer Woody Barrett and the FlashFast offense isn’t as good as Alabama’s or Texas Tech’s, but Southern Illinois threw for 388 yards and four touchdowns.

Barrett is just good enough to give the Ole Miss defense problems and put up a few points on the road. He should keep the chains moving against a D that’s miserable at coming up with third down stops.

What’s Going To Happen

Like all Ole Miss games, expect a whole lot of passing and enough fireworks to make this fun from start to finish. The Rebels will have a lot more fun, though, with the offense getting back to norm.

The two programs combined to lose last week by a total score of 125 to 17.
