Old Dominion (0-2) vs. Charlotte (1-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Old Dominion Will Win
The Charlotte offense that looked so great against Fordham was stuffed by Appalachian State, with the passing game going from sharp to struggle, failing to connect on half the throws and with the attack going nowhere.
The Monarch offensive line has been fine in pass protection, and it shows when it comes to mistakes – the haven’t been any ODU thrown interceptions.
On the flip side, the 49er offensive line gives up way too many plays in the backfield. This is when the Monarchs have to dial up the pressure.
One Reason Why Charlotte Will Win
The 49ers are moving the chains, and ODU isn’t.
Even though the offense struggled in the blowout loss to Appalachian State, it hit 47% of its third down tries. ODU has had a whole slew of problems in the two losses to open the season, but the biggest has been the inability to keep things moving, converting just 21% of its third down tries.
What’s Going To Happen
The game got moved to early Thursday to get the Conference USA East game in to try beating the hurricane. Who will it affect more?
The Old Dominion defense hasn’t been even close so far, giving up 540 yards per game. Charlotte’s offense should be able to get things moving at home, but the Monarchs are way, way overdue to wake up.
There are too many good parts of the offensive puzzle to keep being this bad. This is when the Monarchs get off the slide with – finally – a strong day from Jeremy Cox and the ground attack.
