Oklahoma (3-0) vs. Army (2-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Army Will Win
As always, the Army running game is a differentiating factor, with the ability to rumble on anyone on the right day.
You’d think, of all programs, Oklahoma would know how to handle the option, but it’s more than 20 years removed from running over the world with that.
Of course OU’s defense is far better and more talented than Liberty’s or Hawaii’s, but over the last two weeks, the Knights have rumbled for 752 yards and eight scores. Making the attack even more dangerous is a quarterback who can actually throw – Kelvin Hopkins is just good enough to connect on the deep play when it’s there.
As always, Army dominates the time of possession battle – it’s controlling the clock for almost 40 minutes.
One Reason Why Oklahoma Will Win
The Army secondary can be picked clean.
Kyler Murray is playing at a Heisman level, but he’s getting a whole lot of help from the receiving corps that’s making really, really big things happen.
Hollywood Brown, CeeDee Lamb, and the rest of the deep group are cranking out close to 17 yards per catch, turning short passes into long ones, hitting the home runs, and doing everything else in between.
Liberty and Hawaii might have lost, but they each threw for over 300 yards against Army, and Duke’s Daniel Jones completed 77% of his passes for almost 12 yards per pop.
Yeah, Army will always have the ball, but Oklahoma will score in a snap.
What’s Going To Happen
The Oklahoma run defense is pretty good. Best of all for the Sooners in a game like this, they’re amazing at getting into the backfield – they should be able to stop the Army offense before it starts.
The Knights will put together a few good scoring drives, but at home, the Oklahoma machine will roll up points in bunches to pull away. The Knights won’t have any sort of an answer.
