Oklahoma State (1-0) vs. South Alabama (0-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why South Alabama Will Win
The Jaguars played reasonably well in the first game under new head man Steve Campbell, losing to a solid Louisiana Tech team 30-26. The passing game wasn’t there, but the running game did a nice job of cranking out yards from different options, finishing with 217 yards and three scores, averaging five yards per carry.
They managed to stay in the game with three takeaways to go along with the ground game. And now, they have to do that again. They have to force Oklahoma State mistakes, and they have come up with easy third down chances with the ground attack taking control at times. However …
One Reason Why Oklahoma State Will Win
USA couldn’t do enough key things all that well. It held the ball for just under 23 minutes, turned it over four times, and had no passing game whatsoever.
It shouldn’t take too much for the Cowboys to put this away. As long as Taylor Cornelius and the passing game can explode early again like it did in the 58-17 win over Missouri State, and if the deep group of backs can control the clock a little bit on a few long drives, USA won’t have the ability to come back.
The Cowboy secondary did a great job in the opener, and it shouldn’t have any sort of a problem with the Jaguars through the air, either.
What’s Going To Happen
It’s not going to be quite as bad as the 44-7 Oklahoma State win in last year’s game on the road, but it’s not going to be pretty.
The Cowboys will be almost perfectly balanced, with the South Alabama defense not doing enough to force the takeaways it got against Louisiana Tech. This should be done by halftime.
