Notre Dame (1-0) vs. Ball State (1-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Ball State Will Win
That’s how it’s suppose to look with the players back.
This week, Notre Dame might have to face a real offense.
Ball State was missing QB Riley Neal and RB James Gilbert for most of last year, and the offense didn’t work. They’re back, and the offense rolled in a 42-6 win over Central Connecticut.
The defense is about to be in for a rough day against a Notre Dame offense that wasn’t able to bust out against Michigan, but the Cardinal attack has just enough pop to be dangerous.
Gilbert is a terrific back with All-MAC upside – he ran for 100 yards and a score as part of a ground game that tore off 316 yards and three scores – and Neal completed 23-of-30 passes with two scores.
One Reason Why Notre Dame Will Win
Yes, the Michigan offense looked and was inept in the 24-17 Irish win, but give Notre Dame credit for a D that had something to do with the problems.
The line had a magnificent night against the Wolverine ground game, giving up just 58 yards and not allowing any big dashes. Focus on Gilbert, get pressure on Neal, and the Cardinal O will hit the same sort of wall Shea Patterson and Karan Higdon did.
On the other side, this is when the running game has to roll. The Irish did what they needed to do to get the victory, but their rushing attack only managed 2.8 yards per carry. This is about to change.
What’s Going To Happen
This will be the explosive Irish offense everyone wants to see. Brandon Wimbush will rip off big runs early. the depth of the running back corps will be on display, and the Irish will bust out with 300 rushing yards now that it’s not facing a top ten defense.
