Northwestern (1-1) vs. Akron (1-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Akron Will Win
The Wildcat offense isn’t working quite yet.
It struggled against Duke, and it didn’t do anything in the second half in the too-close win over Purdue.
The Wildcat quarterbacks aren’t connecting on anything down the field – averaging under ten yards per completion – with no touchdown passes and two interceptions.
Yes, it’s only one game against Morgan State, but Akron really does have a solid defense, and it allowed just 78 yards through the air and, technically, leads the nation in pass efficiency defense with two picks.
One Reason Why Northwestern Will Win
Akron might have put up 41 points in its win over an FCSer, but the offense isn’t that great. The O worked fine last week, but the Northwestern defense should rise up and stuff the Zip ground game.
The pass rush has been okay, and after a few interesting battles, the front seven should catch a break this week.
Yeah, the Wildcat offense has had issues so far, but RB Jeremy Larkin has been fantastic, with two 100-yard games and averaging over five yards per carry. He’ll hit that this week, too.
What’s Going To Happen
Northwestern won’t be anything scintillating, but the passing game will start to be a wee bit more effective, and the defense and special teams will put the game away.
Akron will be annoying, and this will be a fine until late, but the Cats will get out alive – even if it doesn’t look good.
