Northern Illinois (1-3) vs. Eastern Michigan (2-2) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
It’s hardly an elimination game in the West race this early on, but with Toledo still to deal with, the losers a whole lot of work to do.
NIU already has a win over Central Michigan, but that’s the team’s only victory so far. To be fair, the other three games were against Iowa, Utah and Florida State, but it would’ve been nice to come up with another win.
Eastern Michigan came up with a win over Purdue, but the loss to Buffalo from the East makes this a must-win moment.
The Eagles have played well, and now they have to take down this game at home.
The Eastern Michigan offensive line has been too leaky, and the running game isn’t working well enough. That’s where Sutton Smith and the NIU pass rush comes in. The Huskies aren’t doing much with their offensive front, and they can’t score, but the pass rush has been impressive.
That won’t be enough.
EMU has a passing game, NIU doesn’t – at all. The Huskies are dead last in the nation in yards per completion, and the running game won’t be good enough to pick up the slack.
