North Carolina (0-1) vs. East Carolina (0-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why North Carolina Will Win
East Carolina got 14 penalties from North Carolina A&T, allowed 269 yards of total offense, and still lost 28-23 to the FCSer.
They struggled with giveaways, and they weren’t able to hold on late as the Aggies came up with a big final quarter to pull off the upset.
The Tar Heels need to get the offense going following the 24-17 loss to Cal, but the defense surprisingly did just fine. The defense was more than solid against the ground game, and the secondary didn’t allow the Bear passing attack to go anywhere.
This week, UNC’s defense will be under pressure from lots and lots and lots of passes. But the defensive backs are good enough to hold up.
One Reason Why East Carolina Will Win
East Carolina will need takeaways to pull this off, and North Carolina might be all too happy to provide them.
The Tar Heels hung around against Cal, but they killed themselves with four Nathan Elliott interceptions and just 137 yards through the air.
Despite the painful and embarrassing loss, Reid Herring and the ECU passing game had some good moments, coming up with over 300 yards as the O kept bombing away.
The Pirates threw it 66 times and still lost, but they’ll keep the pressure on the Tar Heels throughout. If they can take advantage of every opportunity, at home, they might just be able to keep this close.
What’s Going To Happen
This will be a wee bit more of a fight than North Carolina might like.
It’ll get the win, and the offense will suddenly find things that work, but East Carolina will hit a few home runs with the passing game to keep this from blowing up – at least for a few quarters.
The last time these two met, East Carolina won 70-41 back in 2014. It’ll be a spirited game, and the fans will get into it, but it will be all Tar Heels in the second half.
