Virginia (3-1) vs. NC State (3-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Virginia Will Win
The Cavalier secondary has been solid so far. Stop the NC State passing game, stop NC State.
Virginia is allowing quarterbacks. to complete just 55 % of their passes, with Indiana’s Peyton Ramsey the only one who came up with a decent performance. However, he only threw for 150 yards and two scores in the rain.
Wolfpack QB Ryan Finley has carried the offense so far, with the running game averaging just 3.36 yards per carry and averaging a mere 108 yards per game.
Overall, the Cavalier defense has been terrific. It stuffed Louisville for just three points last week, giving up 20 points or fewer in three of the four games. NC State has yet to play anyone amazing with two wins over Group of Five teams and one over an FCSer – even if James Madison is strong.
One Reason Why NC State Will Win
Ryan Finley has been just that good.
Again, he and NC State haven’t faced anyone amazing, but the passing game has been fantastic, throwing for over 300 yards and coming off a 377-yard day against Marshall.
Because of Finley, the Wolfpack offense keeps the offense going and the chains moving, leading the ACC in third down conversions. Virginia is second – that’s been one of the keys to its season, and the Pack has the advantage.
State doesn’t turn the ball over on a regular basis, the offensive line has been great at keeping teams out of the backfield, and if all breaks down, Finley can throw the Pack out of a jam.
What’s Going To Happen
Which quarterback will be stronger, Finley or Virginia’s Bryce Perkins?
They’ll both get the offenses moving with plenty of interesting scoring drives – both quarterbacks will move the chains.
NC State hasn’t been tested yet, but now it’s about to deal with a tough defense that’s going to keep Finley from going off.
It’ll be a grind for the Wolfpack in the second half, but the defense will contain Perkins and come up with two key takeaways. It’ll take a walk off field goal to get it done, but Christopher Dunn will come through.
