Central Michigan (1-3) vs. Michigan State (2-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Central Michigan Will Win
Start bombing and get bombing.
Michigan State might have taken out Indiana without much of a problem, but it’s still not playing all that well, especially in the secondary.
This is supposed to be a decent Spartan pass defense, and it’s been consistently hit for big yards with everyone combining to convert around 66% of their passes with three touchdowns.
MSU has five picks so far, but this is where Tommy Lazzaro has to roll. He took over the starting job for the win over Maine last week, and while he was just okay, he has the arm to stretch the field. Now he has to turn it loose. He can run for scores, too. But …
One Reason Why Michigan State Will Win
The Central Michigan offense is having a hard time getting the offense moving. It’s only converting 29% of its third down chances, and there’s no downfield passing game.
That’s where Lazzaro comes in – he has to start pushing the deeper – but this is hardly a finished Chippewa passing game product. Scoring just 15 points per game so far, CMU’s attack just isn’t working.
Michigan State has been underwhelming so far – to put it nicely – but the offense knows how to control the clock. Against a squishy-soft Chippewa run defense, this is when the ground game has to start working.
What’s Going To Happen
Once again, Michigan State isn’t going to do anything to inspire thoughts of greatness. But it’ll be effective, the defense is going to keep CMU’s struggling offense from going off, and after a lackluster first half, the Spartan ground game will kick it in and pull away in the third quarter.
