Louisville (1-1) vs. WKU (0-2) Game Preview
One Reason Why WKU Will Win
So what’s going right so far for the Hilltoppers in this disastrous start?
The pass rush has been solid, generating three sacks against Wisconsin and three more in the loss to Maine. Louisville’s offensive line couldn’t handle Alabama’s defensive front – no biggie – but it has struggled so far in pass protection.
The stats are skewed because of the date with the Tide, but at the moment, the Cardinals are last among ACC teams in yards, the defense isn’t forcing takeaways, and the run defense is getting rocked.
Even Indiana State came up with 174 yards.
Granted, WKU doesn’t run and needs to throw to win, but once in a while, it could handle balancing things out.
One Reason Why Louisville Will Win
The WKU offense – like Louisville vs. Alabama – has skewed stats because it had to deal with Wisconsin, but it didn’t exactly rip it up against Maine, either.
The attack has been awful on third downs, the O whiffed on three of its four chances against the Badgers inside the red zone, and the defense isn’t taking the ball away. And now, starting quarterback Drew Eckels is hurting and questionable.
For this to work, the Hilltoppers have to be prepared and able to get into a shootout, and so far, they don’t appear to be able to do that.
Louisville will be fine. To keep repeating this, throw out everything that happened against Alabama, and include the aftereffects from the game after, too.
The passing game will eventually start clicking, and yes, the running game will start to work.
Nick Saban didn’t recruit the WKU defensive linemen.
What’s Going To Happen
Bobby Petrino takes care of his former team with a Cardinal performance that makes it look like everything is going to be just fine.
WKU will have its moments, too, but it’ll be an 0-3 start as Louisville takes over in the third quarter with a scoring run helped by two key turnovers.
