Kansas (0-1) vs. Central Michigan (0-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Kansas Will Win
The Kansas run defense has to show up against a mediocre Central Michigan offense. It has to come up with third down stops and it has to hope the Chippewas screw up enough to provide a few breaks in key spots.
CMU didn’t turn the ball over in the 35-20 loss to Kentucky, but it committed 12 penalties and stalled time and again, coming up with just 255 yards of total offense.
LB Joe Dineen came up with 16 tackles in the 26-23 loss to Nicholls State, but there wasn’t anything happening behind the line. Against CMU, the run defense has once again allow fewer than four yards per carry, but it has to hope the offense can hold up its end of the bargain.
One Reason Why Central Michigan Will Win
The Kansas offensive line had a miserable game against the FCS team. It couldn’t keep the Colonels out of the backfield, and it didn’t allow any room for Khalil Herbert to move. The Jayhawks only ran for 56 yards and didn’t average two yards per carry.
Again, against an FCS team.
The Central Michigan defense didn’t get behind the line all that much against Kentucky, but it forced four turnovers in the first half and kept the team in the game. It lost because of big runs from the Wildcat running backs and because the O stalled.
Those big, gashing runs aren’t going to come from the Jayhawks.
What’s Going To Happen
Always take the Power Five program against the Group of Fiver, unless it’s Kansas.
The 2017 Central Michigan team was better than this version, but after winning in Lawrence 45-27 last year, the program will double up with a solid performance in Mount Pleasant.
Tony Poljan and the passing game will be efficient, and the defense will come up with three takeaways to stall Kansas time and again.
