Kansas (2-1) vs. Baylor (2-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Kansas Will Win
So how did Kansas all of a sudden go from being the laughing stock/free space of the Power Five world to Alabama Lite?
Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.
The Jayhawks came up with a grand total of nine takeaways in 2017. They have 13 already this year and 12 in the last two games.
They’ve not only been aggressive at bothering quarterbacks, but they’re attacking the ball, killing Central Michigan with picks, and forcing three fumbles and coming up with three interceptions against Rutgers. And now, they’re No. 1 in the nation in turnover margin and No. 1 in takeaways.
And that’s a problem for Baylor.
The Bears have only generated two takeaways so far and are 100th in the nation in turnover margin. However …
One Reason Why Baylor Will Win
Baylor has an offense. Kansas sort of has one, but not really.
For all the great things the Jayhawks have done over the last two weeks, and for everything that happened in the blowout wins, it’s not the defensive side that’s carrying them.
There’s no downfield passing game, partly because the rushing attack has been strong and the defense has taken care of the rest.
Baylor might have struggled at home last week against a good Duke team, but the Jayhawks have yet to face a team with these weapons.
The receiving corps has been strong, the quarterback rotation is working, and there’s a deep group of running backs able to balance it all out.
It’s this simple. Don’t turn the ball over; beat Kansas.
What’s Going To Happen
It’s too hard to ignore that Kansas has won its last two games by a combined score of 86 to 21. But the wins are all a function of the takeaways.
This week, the Jayhawks will get into a shootout with the offense keeping up the pace – for a while.
The D will come up with a few turnovers, but the O won’t move the chains. The Bears will. They’ll have just enough offensive pop to stop the craziness – but Kansas will still make this a game.
