Iowa (2-0) vs. Northern Iowa (0-1) Game Preview
One Reason Why Northern Iowa Will Win
The Iowa offense isn’t working.
The defense is getting the job done, but there’s no passing game, the ground attack is just okay, and there’s no efficiency to what QB Nate Stanley is doing yet.
He’s only averaging 5.4 yards per pass and only connecting on 53% of his throws. This shouldn’t be the game when it all breaks out – stop the run, stop Iowa.
With Wisconsin up next for the Hawkeyes, the Panthers have to hope Stanley uses this game to open it up a little bit and starts to make big mistakes.
One Reason Why Iowa Will Win
The defense has been unbelievable so far.
It stalled and stopped both Northern Illinois and Iowa State to a dead stop, mostly because of AJ Epenesa and the rest of the pass rush. The Hawkeyes have been bringing the heat from all angles, and it’s working.
Northern Iowa struggled to keep the offense moving in the 26-23 loss to Montana, and there wasn’t much happening with the downfield passing game. The Iowa defensive front will make sure the UNI attack stays inefficient.
What’s Going To Happen
The defense will still continue to carry the Hawkeyes. The Iowa offense isn’t going to be able to get anything consistently moving, but the UNI offense isn’t going to take advantage of it.
It’ll be another workmanlike win for what will be a 3-0 Iowa team. And then it’s on to Wisconsin.
