Florida (1-1) vs. Colorado State (1-2) Game Preview
One Reason Why Florida Will Win
Just how angry will the Gators be after doing the unthinkable and losing to Kentucky?
Just how focused will they be after Colorado State stunned Arkansas last week?
This is where the magnificent Florida secondary needs to be amazing again. It allowed just three yards through the air against Charleston Southern, and while it allowed a few key throws by Terry Wilson of Kentucky, it was able to lock down for most of the game. Colorado State lives through the air – the Gator secondary has to be better than the Ram receiving corps.
This is where the Florida ground game has to take over right away. The O line and the backs are better than they showed against Kentucky, and now they have to blow it out. Commit, and the production will be there with at least 200 yards.
One Reason Why Colorado State Will Win
Colorado State has the best quarterback in the game.
Feleipe Franks has all the tools and a world of upside, but it hasn’t clicked quite yet. It’s all clicking for KJ Carta-Samuels.
The former Washington Husky and UCLA Bruin has settled into the Colorado State offense, and he’s been magnificent, throwing for over 1,100 yards with eight touchdowns in the first three games. Sharp against Arkansas, he hit 68% of his throws and kept the pressure on the Hog secondary all game long.
He’ll get picked off at least once, but he needs to keep the chains moving with his mid-range throws in the rhythm of the offense, and he has to somehow help the Rams control the time of possession.
The D will come up with takeaways, the O will give Carta-Samuels time – now the offense has to pressure the down Gators.
What’s Going To Happen
Florida will bounce back with a brilliant defensive performance – at least against the run.
The offense will batter away against the miserable Colorado State run defense, and Franks will connect on just enough deep throws to open up the attack a bit.
Carta-Samuels will get his yards, but the Florida secondary will generate at least two takeaways to get past last week’s disaster and get the program back on track.
