Florida State (1-1) vs. Syracuse (2-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Florida State Will Win
The change of scenery should help.
The Seminoles came out shockingly flat and lousy against Virginia Tech to kick things off, and then they played like a team with the weight of the world on its shoulders in the ridiculously close 36-26 win over Samford.
Now that they’re on the road, they might play a bit looser – at least, that’s the hope.
Yeah, Syracuse was able to blow through Wagner and Western Michigan, but now it has to face a defense with talent. On the other side, as easy as the 2-0 start has been so far, the secondary has been hit for 313 yards per game and the defense has allowed the most yards of anyone in the ACC.
Florida State offense, it’s time to get going.
One Reason Why Syracuse Will Win
The Florida State offense can’t get going.
It came through late against Samford, but it took way too long to wake up. The O can’t come up with third down conversions, and outside of one big run from Cam Akers against Virginia Tech, the ground game is having problems behind a line that hasn’t improved much after a rough 2017.
The offensive problems were a wee bit foreseeable, but the shocker has been the pass defense that was lit up by Virginia Tech and torched for 475 yards by Samford. Yeah, the D came up with four picks last week, but it’s about to be under siege from Eric Dungey and the Syracuse air show.
The Orange threw for five scores last week against Wagner after a rocky day against Western Michigan – but the offense worked overall. If Dungey gets time, he’ll bomb away for at least 300 yards.
What’s Going To Happen
1966. That’s when Syracuse beat Florida State 37-21. The Seminoles have won ten straight since then.
Is it finally time to break the streak?
Syracuse won’t show much defensively – the FSU offense will start to look the part – but this will be Dungey’s day. He won’t be under that much pressure, the running game will help him out, and he’ll bomb away for the first big win in the Carrier Dome since the shocker over Clemson last season.
